Library Work Commences
Development work commenced on the new library in December 2007
We are pleased to report that Development work commenced on the new library in December 2007. Many people have been anxious to see the work finished and the library in action.
Nurul Ullah the school’s Project Officer said: “The library project has been spear-headed by a dedicated team of volunteers, co-ordinated by the school’s Project Office. The team includes experienced, qualified Liberians.The work has been slightly delayed due to the creative, careful, meticulous design process. The steering group has been determined to create the best possible library in the most cost-effective way.”
The Library project is complex, consisting of various phases from design to implementation:
Project Management Plan
Writing detailed project management document covering research, design, implementation phases, maintenance, administration, and risk analysis.
Room clearance
Tons of old books and disused furniture need to be removed so as to clear the room for physical refurbishment.
Storage of Current Stock of Books
Over 100 boxes full of books has been stored pending the refurbishment.
Selection of Stock to Carry Forward
This is a complex process based on carefully agreed criteria developed by the books selection team.
Design Phase
- Extensive researching to come up with an innovative, creative and cost-effective design
- Ensure room layout supports study and learning
- Specify location of modern technology
- Specify new stock to be purchased
- Plan refurbishment - painting, decorating, flooring, lighting and possible structural changes.
Implementation Phase
- Painting, decorating, flooring, lighting and structural changes.
- Installation of books shelves, study boxes, counter, and other furniture
- Installation of PCs, Language Lab, Projectors and Interactive White Boards
- Purchase of new stock
- Security tagging and catalogueing all the books
- Stocking the shelves
